Dear Friend,

As a current or prospective patient in my office, you may have heard about a unique care program we offer especially for diabetics called Dentistry for Diabetics. If you are like most diabetics, this probably interests you greatly. And your first reaction may very well be, “what is Dentistry for Diabetics and how can I benefit from this program?” That’s a great question, allow me to explain.

Scientific data has now proven that there is a direct link between oral health (how healthy your teeth and gums are) and total body health. This is vitally important for the diabetic, who is TWICE as likely to have gum and bone disease as non-diabetics. In fact, a recent report from the U.S. Surgeon General outlines the direct connection between gum and bone disease and dental care for diabetics. The worst part is, diabetes can aggravate, worsen and even accelerate gum and bone disease…which in turn, makes it more difficult to control blood sugar levels. It’s a “Catch 22” situation…lose-lose. If your teeth and gums are in bad shape, they can make your diabetes worse, and if you diabetes is out of control, it can accelerate bone and gum disease, leaving your mouth a wreck.

To top it all off, gum disease (Gingivitis), if left untreated and uncontrolled, progresses to ‘Periodontitis’ which can involve chronic infection, tooth loss, bone loss as well as make it almost impossible to control your blood sugar levels.

The good news: Your Dentistry for Diabetics trained dentist, Dr. Bill Gussow pays special attention to your diabetic condition and is here to help you get back on track- so that you can have that smile you want and deserve… and a healthier, happier life! At our office, we understand that diabetics are predisposed to bacterial infections and are therefore at a much greater risk than others. We also understand that these bacteria and bacterial infections thrive on the sugars diabetics have trouble regulating. That is exactly why we provide a multi-faceted treatment approach to help you win this war.

To Your Total Health,

Dr. Bill Gussow and Staff
